"Ms Greta Thunberg & President Barack Obama"
Max Modén is a Swedish photographer working in portrait, fashion, editorial, and children’s photography. He is known for his sensitive use of natural light and for creative, high-quality images that often contain both playfulness and elegance. Through his iconic portraits and unique projects with dancers, he has established himself as a creative force in contemporary Swedish photography.
Background & inspiration
- Modén’s passion for photography was awakened early after discovering his father’s darkroom. By the age of 12, he knew that photography would be his life’s work.
- He has lived and worked in New York and Paris, but is now based in Stockholm.
Breakthrough & stylistic signature
- His portraits of Greta Thunberg and Barack Obama, taken at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm in June 2019, were awarded “Portrait of the Year” in Sweden in the photojournalism category.
- Modén has a particular talent for capturing children’s playful energy in high-fashion contexts, while still maintaining a strong sense of quality and style.
- He is also the creator behind photographic projects such as The Ballerina Project Stockholm and Ballerina Hotel, in which he lets professional dancers play the leading role in grand settings — often hotel rooms or urban interiors.
Assignments & collaborations
- Modén has photographed for several well-known brands and magazines, including Marc O’Polo, H&M, Lindex, C&A, Cellbes, Joy, I dig denim, Tao & Friends, One We Like, La Petite Magazine, Babiekins, Hooligans, and Milk Magazine.
Gallery & limited edition prints
- Under the name Max Made Gallery he sells fine art photo prints in limited editions — numbered and signed by the artist himself and accompanied by a certificate.
